Provide two FOCS ARTS classes for two different age groups in a cultural dance – (as appropriate, based on ages and abilities of participants). 

Classes will be an 8-week series. The first class will be from 10:30 – 11:15 am (45 minutes) for 18 months to 3 year olds. The second class will be from 11:45 am – 12:45 am (1 hour) for 4-7 years old.

The Teaching Artist plays a critical role in the success of the FOCSarts program. They should have demonstrated experience in breakdancing and be passionate about teaching preschool aged children in a school setting. Our team of Teaching Artists are experienced in creating safe learning environments for all children to express themselves creatively and to support children’s accomplishments, no matter how large or small. Parental involvement and participation will be encouraged, especially for the younger class. Classes will be interactive, participatory, age-appropriate and will incorporate authentic elements of culture, language, dance and song. Teaching Artist will be responsible for creating curriculum and providing any tools and props for a successful class. Teaching Artist reports directly to the Program Director.


  • Demonstrated experience in hip hop dance and other forms of dance as applicable

  • Experience interacting with and teaching preschool aged children

  • Strong commitment to working with educators and children

  • Strong commitment to undoing institutional racism and promoting equity

  • Experience working in and with communities of color and other marginalized communities

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills and ability to multitask

  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision

  • Must pass background check

  • Strong commitment to FOCS mission and values

  • Must abide by FOCS Teaching Artist Code of Conduct
