FOCS Founder, Amy Pak and staff were invited to speak at Seattle Public Utilities API Heritage Month celebration

We talked about:

  • Historical & present national and local API & Black solidarity for racial justice
  • Intersectional API identities of queer trans people of color, mixed race folks and transracial adoptees
  • The problematic exclusion of Pacific Islander people from the term “API” (Asian and Pacific Islander). The sovereignty movements of Standing Rock, Pacific Islander people, Hawaiian  people and Latino indigenous land workers
  • Access to clean water as the single most inequitable resource globally and an issue that will increase in importance locally where SPU needs to lead with a radical racial equity lens
